Custom
MIPI CSI-2 Cameras

Built for your vision project

From custom adaptations to MIPI Cameras for specialized applications

Embedded MIPI cameras from Vision Components are designed for easy integration into machines, systems, and smart devices.
On request, we adapt the camera board, connector, and cable to your specific requirements, integrate new image sensors, and deliver cameras complete with matching optics, fully assembled and calibrated.

We're also happy to take on custom driver adaptations, ISP calibration, and image data optimization, and support you with the design-in for your embedded vision system. We also develop entirely new MIPI cameras and complete solutions for special requirements.

Our service: Individual MIPI cameras, customization & installation

We develop VC MIPI camera modules with your desired sensor or undertake individual adaptations of cables and connectors or PCB format and sensor position so that you can integrate the cameras into your projects in the best possible way. On request, we can also supply fully assembled and calibrated cameras including optics.

Board Shape & Finish

We adapt the shape of the camera board so it fits your application in the best possible way, round or angular, with custom mounting holes or a specific sensor position. Two or more image sensors on a single board are also possible. We also develop camera boards for special thermal requirements.

Custom Image Sensors

Ask us about our roadmap for new image sensors, or about the sensor your project specifically needs. The modular design of VC MIPI® Cameras allows for fast, cost-effective development of custom camera modules. Sensors can be fitted with polarization filters on request.

Optics & Calibration

For VC MIPI® Cameras, you get matching lens holders and optics for your project. We offer extremely compact S-mount lenses in M7/M8 and M12 formats, as well as C-mount and CS-mount optics for a wide range of applications. All optics are also available fully assembled, focused, and calibrated in our lab, ready for direct camera installation.

Connectors

For special installation situations, we also supply our MIPI cameras with, for example, an angled connector for FPC cables or a board-to-board connector for direct integration into your embedded vision system.

Cables – FPC, Micro-Coax, GMSL2, and More

Our standard FPC cables are available in various lengths and connector variants, with an integrated trigger line or for external triggers/strobes. We also offer Micro-Coax/GMSL2 cable options and develop custom cables for MIPI Cameras, with individual length and configuration.

ISP Tuning & Design-In Services

We support your embedded vision project: from design-in and camera integration into your overall system, to full development of the optical setup, to optimizing the image pipeline and image quality. Our experts and an optical lab are available to help.

Further questions about MIPI CSI-2 cameras

Do you have further questions?

A MIPI camera (Mobile Industry Processor Interface - camera) uses the MIPI CSI-2 interface (Camera Serial Interface 2) to transfer images and videos to a host device, processor or microcontroller. The MIPI CSI-2 interface is specifically designed for mobile and embedded systems and is commonly used in smartphones, tablets, drones and other compact electronic devices.

VC MIPI® Cameras are based on the same technology, and are adapted to the special requirements of professional applications. They offer a price-optimized design, industrial-grade quality and long-term availability.

MIPI cameras offer a high data rate of up to 6 GBit/s (with 4 lanes of 1.5 GBit/s each) and are therefore also suitable for high-resolution image and video applications. They are low-power, compact and flexible to integrate, making them ideal for installation in mobile devices, robots and ultra-compact sensors. In combination with embedded vision and onboard data processing, no additional computing units are required.

MIPI cameras were originally developed for smartphones and tablets, where they can be integrated into the smallest of spaces. Today, industrial applications and smart devices also benefit from these advantages. VC develops and produces special MIPI CSI cameras for professional applications, such as medical diagnostics, to read engraved characters or to navigate robots and AMRs.

A ribbon cable specially designed for MIPI CSI-2 is usually used to connect a MIPI camera. The MIPI FFC cables (Flexible Flat Cable) or FPC Cables consist of parallel, flat cables and are ideal for high-speed data transmission in a compact design. Shielded flat cables are often used to protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The connectors and cables must be matched to the specific connections of the processor board used. Different MIPI connectors are implemented, depending on the manufacturer.

MIPI cables are usually a maximum of 20 cm long. For longer cables up to 10 m and more flexible integrations, VC offers solutions with SerDes adapters and coaxial cables.
