VC MIPI Multiview Cam

9-camera array for MIPI CSI-2

Camera for Light Field Measurement, Multiview & Multispectral Imaging

The VC MIPI® Multiview Cam is a camera array with 9 image sensors, that transmits the images from the individual cameras collectively via a single MIPI CSI-2 data stream. This allows flexible connection to any processor board with a MIPI CSI-2 interface.

Use-Cases for VC MIPI Multiview Cam

Light Field Measurement

High-density/high-accuracy point clouds

The 9-camera system generates dense, high-precision point clouds that enable reliable depth analysis and accurate measurements.
Fast recording speed
The multi-camera array captures image data in a single shot, quickly and in full detail.
Wide coverage / 3D imaging
The different angles of the sensors create a 3D reconstruction that depicts objects realistically and three-dimensionally.
Suitable for metallic surfaces

The varying perspectives reduce distracting highlights, allowing shiny or metallic surfaces to be analyzed with precision.

Multispectral Imaging

Free choice of wavelength per sensor – up to 9 spectra
Each of the nine sensors can be individually selected. This enables flexible analysis with visible light, in the SWIR and NIR ranges.
Ideal for smart farming, quality control/sorting, etc.
Multispectral imaging opens up a wide range of applications in research and industry, from plant growth and material testing to surface inspection.
Individual RGB/XYZ cameras via filter selection
Individual RGB and XYZ cameras can be configured using appropriate filters.

Multiview / Multi-Perspective Imaging

One shot, 9 Images
With just one shot, you get nine views of the same object, with slightly shifted perspectives.
Data acquisition for training AI models, etc.
The multi-perspective images provide a spatial representation of objects as a database for AI training, which is significantly easier to handle than real 3D data.

Develop Your Own Custom Sensor for Light Field Measurement and Multispectral Imaging

Camera array with 9 VC MIPI Camera Modules

Flexible camera array for OEM developments

The VC MIPI® Multiview Cam is designed as a modular basis for developing your own light field cameras, multiview cameras, or multispectral cameras. OEM manufacturers receive the camera array with 9x VC MIPI® Camera Modules arranged on a robust aluminum plate.

FPGA for onboard data pre-processing
FPGA for onboard data pre-processing

An FPGA is integrated on the board for preprocessing the image data and merging it into a single MIPI data stream. Connection to a processor board is via 1x MIPI CSI-2. This makes it just as easy to integrate the multiview camera into an embedded vision system as a single VC MIPI® Camera Module.

Do you have further questions?

A camera for light field measurement captures not only the intensity but also the direction of the reflected light. The data can be used to generate point clouds with very high density and accuracy. This is why light field cameras are also called depth cameras. A multi-camera array has the advantage of capturing data very quickly during light field measurement. Light field measurement is also suitable for metallic objects, because the effects of highlights are reduced by the different angles of the lenses to the object.

Multi-perspective and multispectral cameras capture objects from different angles and/or with sensitivity to different wavelength ranges. This enables a spatial, three-dimensional representation of objects or the analysis of surfaces to detect deviations, that are difficult or impossible to detect under visible light or with only a limited spectral range.

The images from a multiview camera can also be used to train AI models, because they show objects from slightly different perspectives. Compared to real 3D data, the amount of data is significantly lower, allowing for faster training.

The VC MIPI® Multiview Cam was developed as a module for OEM manufacturers, who develop their own light field cameras or multispectral cameras based on the optical system. The ready-to-use, calibrated optical setup saves time in development. In addition, the images are already merged into a MIPI data stream on board, so that processor boards with only one MIPI CSI-2 interface and less computing power are sufficient for data processing. This simplifies the design of the embedded vision system.
